One in 10 Indians going online in June visited websites offering special deals, with SnapDeal.com as the most visited destination. This trend is paving the way for increased e-commerce in India, as revealed in a report by comScore Media Metrix service.
The findings showed that 4.6 million Internet users aged 15 and older, or 10.4% of the country’s online population, accessed coupon sites from a home or work location in the month reviewed.
Males made up the majority, at 61.8% of the visitors, with females at 38.2%. Internet users aged 25 to 34 accounted for 43%, forming the largest percentage of the coupon category audience. They were also 5% more likely to access a coupon site compared to an average Internet user (Index of 105).
SnapDeal.com led as the top visited site with nearly 1.5 million unique visitors during the month, followed by Dealsandyou.comwith 990,000 visitors and Mydala.com with 952,000 visitors.
Kedar Gavane, comScore director for India, said that the global online coupon trend had taken root in India judging from the significant increase in visitors to deal sites.
“The convenience of the online channel coupled with enticing deals has attracted a growing number of visitors to the coupon category and to daily deal sites, in particular. Consumer adoption of these types of deal sites could be an important step in the overall growth of e-commerce in India, which has traditionally lagged behind other global markets.”
